Amazing what you find when cleaning...

I was going through some papers today trying to get things in order before school is on again and I found this piece of paper:

At the opening of the Kansas State Senate Rev. Joe Wright was asked to pray. Below is an edited version of his prayer...

"Heavenly Father we ask Your forgiveness. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those call evil good,' but that's exactly what we've done and we confess that:

We have ridiculed the absolute truth af Your Word and called it pluralism.
We have endorsed perversion and called it an alternative lifestyle.
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
We have neglected the needy and called it self-reservation
We have killed our unborn and called it choice.
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it self-expression.
We have abused power and called it political savvy.
We have coveted our neighbour's possessions and called it ambition.
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honoured values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, O God, know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free in the Name of Your Son, the Living Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen"

If that's not a powerful prayer I don't know what is! It got me thinking at least!

Hi Katrín! Good to hear from you again.
I remember this prayer very well - it was also published in one of our books (compiled by J John and Mark Stibbe). These are humbling, honest words! It makes you think - what would the world look like when we were all as outspoken in our (public) prayers?
Do you know the song by Casting Crowns What If His People Prayed?

I think this line is great:

What if the family turned to Jesus
Stopped asking Oprah what to do

These lyrics are inspired by 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Blessings
Paul

What If His People Prayed
[Casting Crowns]

What if the armies of the Lord
Picked up and dusted off their swords
Vowed to set the captives free
And not let satan have one more

What if the church, for heaven's sake
Finally stepped up to the plate
Took a stand upon God's promise
And stormed hell's rusty gates

Chorus:
What if His people prayed
And those who bare His name
Would humbly seek His face
And turn from their own way

And what would happen if we prayed
For those raised up to lead the way
Then maybe kids in school could pray
And unborn children see light of day

What if the life that we pursue
Came from a hunger for the truth
What if the family turned to Jesus
Stopped asking Oprah what to do

Chorus:
What if His people prayed
And those who bare His name
Would humbly seek His face
And turn from their own way

He said that they would hear
His promise has been made
He'll answer loud and clear
If only we would pray

If My people called by My name
If they'll humble themselves and pray
If My people called by My name
If they'll humble themselves and pray

Chorus:
What if His people prayed
And those who bare His name
Would humbly seek His face
And turn from their own way
He said that they would hear
His promise has been made
He'll answer loud and clear
If only we would pray

What if His people prayed

If My people called by My name..........
