"As an atheist, I truly believe Africa needs God"
I just read an article in The Times that had this heading. Such a strange and contradicting heading, but VERY interesting :) An atheist's view on missionary work in Africa, and why he holds that view... I suggest you read it too!
Here's the link to the article:

Interesting, I will read it. But first I want to share this opinion with you:
As a Christian, I truly believe atheists need God.
And Africa needs God too, of course.
Africa. How well it earned it's name, "The Dark Continent." I see it as the most athiestic place on earth. In spite of the great and wonderful efforts of God's workers, I wonder if there is enough time left to make any meaningful change to the lost peoples of that land.
I wonder if it might be cursed.
When I see female castration, starvation on such a grand scale, Eboli, AIDS and STD's, tribal warfare and crimes against nature- such as poaching and and deforistation, I can't help but wonder. Is this continent not the stable of the 4 horsmen? Their home? Pagan pirates abound.
Look at what they did to Rhodesia.
Yes, Africa does need God. But, are they aware of that? I doubt it. And, for sure, missionaries do make a wonderful difference. But, are there enough? Your experience in Africa was very different than mine. I hold little or no hope. And it doesn't make me happy to say that. It would take an army of angels. Real angels.
But, after reading that article, I must say that I suspect that the author is not long to be an athiest, and maybe that is a good thing in it's own self.
It is hard for me to be hopeful for the masses, but thankful for the individuals that accept the Lord. I guess, for now, that is a start.
Þetta er áhugaverð grein og styður það góða starf sem kristniboðar standa fyrir í Afríku.
Jón Kristinn
You are beautiful beyond words.
