Things don't go as planned

That's for sure! Things don't always go as planned.

This weekend didn't go as planned at all!
1) There were supposed to be two volleyball games, but both got cancelled! (Instead we had practices, which was fun ofcourse 'cause I just love volleyball.)
2) I didn't go to this camp thing (stúdentamót) with my youth group because of the volleyball games and I needed to study alot... but I just couldn't concentrate! So I didn't really get much studying done :(
3) I was going to drive to the camp last night, but then the weather got bad and I didn't want to drive by myself in the strong wind after dark... so that didn't happen either.
Basically nothing happened this weekend! Nothing that was supposed to happen at least...

What did I do this weekend? Hmmmm... I went to volleyball practices, relaxed, stared at my books in stead of really reading them, I watched videos with my sister :), taught Sunday school and went out for lunch with Guðrún and Pétur. So I did do stuff, just not what I had planned :oP It's been a good weekend although it wasn't very productive.

Now another week is about to start and I'm ready to get to work and get things done! Let's just see how things work out. Who knows? Maybe it'll go according to plan.

Teachers, teachers...

Today was the most boring class ever... well, next to the one on last Thursday. The teaching isn't really the best. We have two teachers teaching together and sometimes they are debating more than teaching. It's like they are trying to show who knows the most or something. Not a good way to teach! Sometimes it's actually a little funny, but I don't learn too much from it. Today was boring also because half the time we just sat there doing nothing, waiting for the teaching to go on. We were looking at samples of brains and they gave us like half an hour for each! It doesn't take more than 5 min tops to look at one sample! So, as you can tell I'm a bit frustrated... Anyways! That was my boring day at school.

Not again!

It happened again today! Our teacher went to the bathroom and forgot to turn off the mic! I think he must have thought he turned it off, 'cause when he came back and was going to turn it on he actually turned it off... whoops!

Hmmmm...

Man! I'm having such a hard time studying! My mind just keeps wandering off all the time. I'll read a page and then realise that I don't have a clue what it said cause my mind was just somewhere else. It is really frustrating! Anyways, that's why I decided to take a short break :)

Is it just me or does time pass abnormally fast?! I feel like it was just Christmas, but in a little more than a week January is over! It's not a bad thing, I just feel like time disappears, and I don't get anything done. It's a funny thing - time - don't you think? Sometimes it seems to pass soooooooooo slowly and at other times it goes by way too fast.

Right now I guess I should think a little more like the people in Ethiopia (or just the whole of Africa). In their minds thime doesn't pass, it comes! There is always enough time,- time comes ;)

And now it's time for me to stop my speculations before this gets too boring for you guys... hehe

My website works now!

Finally! For those of you that have been trying to or want to look at my website, you can now! It is fixed! Sorry it took so long to fix it...

In control?

So much for trying to keep things under my control and not getting stressed out... Last night I got overwhelmed by everything I have to get into my head within the next 2-3 weeks. This is not the first time something like this happens... let's just say I have a special gift when it comes to worrying! Name a thing I can worry about and I probably will. I know, I know! I'm working on not worrying so much. I guess I'm just a slow learner in this area. Things usually work out fine and I'll see that my worrying was just a waste of time. I just need to remind myself about that.

Here is a quote a friend of mine shared with me a while back:

"There's no point in worrying about things out of your control, 'cause you have no control over them and there's no sense in worrying about things under your control, 'cause you have control over them, so there's no sense in worrying."

And then there is this really great book I have, that always seems to have something great to say in every situation:

"Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to this life? ... Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Every day has enough trouble of its own." (Matthew 6:27,34)

Ahhh! Now I feel better :D No need to worry, it's a waste of time and it's not fun either. If you are worrying.... DON'T!

Change of plans

I'm a little disappointed... This week end the volleyball team was supposed to go to Neskaupsstaður, but there has been a change of plans. One of our team members has the flue so we can't go. This week end would have been the perfect time for me to go, because there is still a few weeks until my final test in neurology and the anatomy of the head and neck. So, anyways! The trip has been postponed and most likely we'll go friday February 4. By that time there is only a litte more than a week until my final test! Uggh! Oh, well! I guess I'll just have to plan ahead so that I won't get all stressed out ;) After all I'm all about planning and trying to keep things under my control... which doesn't always work.

It's a brainy day...

Today, like many other days in the nearest future, is going to be a brainy day. I'll spend hours looking at, and reading about, this funny looking intestine-like mass of tissue we have in our heads. Learning how it processes all the information it gets from the neurons and what happens if something goes wrong and so on and so forth... So, yes! It's going to be a BRAINY day today!

What do you do when you can't feel your leg?

What a morning! I must have forgotten to set my alarm last night because I didn't wake up until my phone rang. I jumped out of bed to grab the phone, but something was wrong... I couldn't feel my right leg! Wham! I fell on the floor. I got up, tried another step. Wham! I fell again. What was going on? My leg was just like rubber or something! I finally got to my phone half lying on the floor. I was getting late for Sunday school. As soon as I could feel my leg again I ran off to the church, and I got there just in time! What a funny experience...

Ahhhhhh! It's Saturday!

I like Saturdays! My second favourite day of the week. It's the day that I usually allow myself to relax a little (more than usual) and do something fun. Not so much studying :o)

Today is going to be a good day. I just came back from the a really fun volleyball practice and I feel goooood! I'm really excited 'cause next week end I get to go with the team to Neskaupstaður (it's a small town in East-Iceland) where we'll have two games. I have never been to the eastern part of this little country so it'll be fun!

Later today I'm going to a birthday party to one of my younger cousins. She's 10 (I think). It's always fun to go to such parties because I'll meet a big part of my extended family and chat with them... and ofcourse eat some good cakes and stuff like that... haha! Won't argue about that!

Well, I think it's about time I get into the shower, I'm suffocating in my own stinky sweat... You probably didn't want to know that, sorry :oP

Have a great Saturday!!!

Whoops!

Just want to give some advice: If ever you're giving lectures somewhere, make sure to turn of the mic between classes!

We sat in our class room waiting for the next lecture to start... suddenly we heard water running... Whoops! The teacher forgot to turn of the mic when he went to the bathroom! The funny thing is that it's not the first time he forgets.

Wow-experiences every day!

OK, OK... it's time for me to blog a little.

Finally I'm getting into the study mode again! It's about time! The next few weeks will be very interesting. I'm learning about the brain and the nervous system, -something that has always facinated me! The most fun part is getting to look at real brains and dissecting them a little. It's kinda cool to be able to say: I held a human brain in my hands today!

I'm not going to bore you with stuff that I'm learning, but I just have to tell you that we really are "fearfully and wonderfully made"! The more I learn about the human body and the tinyest parts of it and how it all works, the more amazed I become! I have "WOW-experiences" every day! God is so awesome! How cool is it that the Creator of all this is my friend?!

I could go on and on, but I think I'll stop here ;) Save something to talk about for later... hehe.

Fact of the day!

I just learned an interesting fact in class this week.

The average weight of the brain is not the same in women and men.
Women: 1200 g. Men: 1400 g.
So what does this mean? Yes men's brains are bigger than women's. You might think it means that men are smarter or more intelligent than women, but no! Not right! Those 200 extra grams of brain they have, they use only to think about women! Interesting, huh?

Stopped by the police!

I was driving home after a night of games and fun with my biblestudy group. It was about 1 am and I got pulled over by the police! Yeah, I was speeding... No, just kidding! Would have made a more fun story if that had been the case, hehe. But it was just a routine check. A policeman asked for my driversliscence and then asked me if I had been drinking. I just told him: "I don't drink" and then I got to go... no blowing into some thingy to check if I was telling the truth.

That's my story of the day!

This is me

This is me Posted by Hello

My first blog!!!

Hello, everyone! First of all I'd like to say: HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I never thought I would become a blogger, but here I am writing my first blog. Welcome to the blog-world!

Well, this is me and my life at the moment:

Being a first year med student at the University of Iceland is just great. Finally I feel like I've found my place in life. It's hard work and a bit stressful at times, but since I like it so much and I'm interested in what I'm studying it's not such a big deal. (I'm not saying that I don't get tired of studying, 'cause I do.)

Christmas was just great! Spent time with family and friends, ate lots of good food and candy, played games, slept, relaxed and was lazy. A good break, just a little too short! I would have liked a few more days of sleeping in and relaxing but the crazyness of school started yesterday. I'm taking it slowly these first days and not really studying much. It takes a while to get into gear again.

These next few days I'll put some fun stuff on my blog... just wait and see ;)

That's it for now. Have a great day!
