I now am 23 years old

I turned 23 yesterday! Hmmm... 23... time really does fly, doesn't it?

Last night I went with out for dinner with my friend Magga. I had Louisiana chickenfingers... yummmm! After dinner we went to the movies and saw Million Dollar Baby. If you haven't seen it you should!

So yesterday was a good day, except for the fact that school started again. Easter break was just too short! Now I only have 4 weeks left of school, then comes a month with exams and stuff like that. I can't wait till it's all over!

Easter camp with KSS!

As I told you know I went to Easter camp with a bunch of kids from KSS. There were about 60 people there counting the citchen staff and us group leaders. The program was packed with stuff to do. We had Biblestudies in the morning, group discussions after that, free time in the afternoon as well as some planned activities and meetings at night. I think everyone enjoyed being there. Just to give you a little taste of what went on I'm goin to tell you a little bit about each day... kinda like a diary I guess, since I couldn't blog while I was there ;) Let's start with the theme of the camp:

Adam Eve

Wednesday, March 23

So, yes the theme was Adam (heart) Eve. The first night the speaker (Halldór) talked about Adam and Eve and what the Bible says about "boy-girl communication". I thought it was great to listen to him and he had a lot of good things to say. I wrote a lot of it down... Maybe I'll add some of it here when I have time.

Thursday, March 24

The Bible study in the morning was on the topic "Sex before marriage". Interesting topic don't you think? I think it is important to talk to young Christians about this and what the Bible says about it. We had lively discussions in my group. It is a hard topic to talk about and people have lot's of questions. We shared thoughts and opinions, and I told them what I think and believe... I think the Bilbe is pretty clear on this subject. Sex belonges to married life, not before. There is no ding-ding without the wedding ring! Hehe!

In the afternoon we watched the movie "Saved". I thought it was a great movie. It doesn't paint a pretty picture of Christians, but I think it is a great movie to use as a mirror fore oneself. If you haven't seen it you should. I don't know if this is the picture people have of Christians, but if they do... I guess we need to get out there and show them what Christ is all about: LOVE

“ Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. ”
(Colossians 3:12)

In the evening meeting Jón Ómar, the speaker, talked about the movie and its relevance for us as Christians.

Friday, March 25 - Good Friday

On Good Friday those who wanted to had the opportunity to fast. I've done that every time I've been to this camp. It just makes this day more special and helps me to reflect on what happened on this day. I spent a lot of time in the little chapel they have in Vatnaskógur, reading God's word, praying to Him and dwelling in His presence. It was incredible!

This is the chapel. Really cozy and nice!

The Bible study this day was on women in the Bible, how God used women and how Jesus treated them. In the discussion groups we talked about women's rights in the church and equal rights of men and women. It was not as lively as when we were talking about sex before marriage ;)

In the afternoon those who wanted to watched The Passion of the Christ, and I was one of them. I saw it at the movies last year, but somehow this time it was even more powerful... I guess because I had been reflecting more on the events of Good Friday. Shortly after the movie everyone went to the chapel and we read the passage about these events. One of the guys in the group then carried a cross to the "main house". We ended with a short time of reflection and singing in the little hall there. The cross lay in the middle of the room and everyone got a candle to put on the cross. Very powerful.

In the evening we had a time of worship and testimonies. Lots of kids got up and shared about what God has done and is doing in their lives. Some of us older people also stood up. It was really encouraging.

Saturday, March 26

The last morning we had a Bible study on "Solitary life" (choosing life without a spouce). It was very interesting. Ragnar talked about how when we don't have a partner we can devote all our time to the Lord, and that it is harder to do so when we have a family. Not saying that it is better to live alone or more right... where would we be if everyone decided to do that? No, he was just telling us to really live for God. Dedicate your life to God and spend it living for Him both before you meet that special someone and after. Don't just sit around and wait for that someone to pop into your life, serve God while you are waiting ;) That goes for me too!!

Saturday evening we were back in town and rounded up the camp with a youth group meeting and a party afterwards. A great end to a great camp!

Easter break is finally here!

I'm so glad I don't have classes for a whole week now! Ahhh! Will be great! I'll have to do some studying though... I know I said I wasn't going to, but I have myself to blame! I haven't done half of what I should have done these last few weeks. I think my brain is on strike. I'm trying hard to negotiate with it, but nothing seems to work.
Tomorrow I'm going to camp with KSS (Christian Youth Group for 15-20 year olds) until Saturday. I'm supposed to lead discussions in a group after Bible studies. It is going to be really fun. A few days to spend with Jesus out of town is just what I need. Can't wait to go!
Let's see... what more can I tell you? Oh, yes! My team, Þróttur Reykjavík, won the volleyball tournament that ended last week. We became "Íslands meistarar"!!
That's it I think... Just one more thing to add:
HAVE A GREAT EASTER!!!

Becoming the perfect nerd!

Yes, I'm getting nerdier every day... Not only do I spend a lot of time with my nose in school books, studying hard night and day... no, that's not nerdy enough! What's missing then? Hmmmm... Oh, right! Glasses! Final touch to the perfect nerd 8o) Don't you think?

Yup, I went to the eye doctor today and it turnes out I need glasses. So I guess I'll be shopping for them pretty soon. I'll probably buy them at the airport though - tax free, it's a lot cheaper ;) You see, I'm going to this conference for Christian medical students in Sweden in the beginning of April, so I'll buy the glasses on my way there. Can't wait to go to Sweeden, but I'm not as excited about the glasses, they are so expensive!

Communication

These days we in the first year of medical school are learning about communication... What is good communication and what is bad. What qualities do we need to have to be good at communicating? It's not a hard question to answer and there is not one right answer to it either. We all know what we look for in a person we like communicating with.

As I was reading a few verses in the Bible today this one stood out to me:
“ Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. ”
(Colossians 3:12)

Isn't that just a great answer to the question asked? I just thought it was a little funny that I read this verse today since we were listing most of those qualities in class this afternoon. It reminded me that the Bible has something to teach us in almost every situation. I have to admit that I sometimes forget that it is the LIVING WORD of God and just read it like any other book. But God has His way of reminding me that He does speak to me personally through the Bible. Countless times verses have jumped at me and spoken right into my situation. I am so thankful for that.

That's it for now! God bless!

..... is in the air!

What's in the air?! Love? Yes, for many people - but not in my case ;oP Just thought I'd try to get you curious, hehe. So, what's in the air then?! Spring is in the air!

This morning I woke up because of the sun! It was just shining so bright I couldn't sleep. Mmmmm... That's how I like it! It was a beautiful day - very springy ;o) Sadly I think it is supposed to get cooler sometime next week :o( So, I made the most of this day and enjoyed it! Last night I decided that I was going to stay home and study in stead of going to school. Anyways! Ofcourse I didn't study much in the beautiful weather, I went swimming! No, sorry, that's actually a lie cause I didn't swim at all. I just lay in the hottub sunbathing the whole time I was at the pool! Relaxing for an hour or so. Ahhhhhhhhh :o)

My lazy Friday ended with an Idol party at my aunt's house. Yep, we have Icelandic Idol... It's everywhere! Fun to watch!

The rest of the weekend I'll have to be a little bit more productive. Do some reading and writing, maybe.

What can I tell you?

Wow! It's Tuesday already, actually very soon it will be Wednesday! Just where does time go these days? Just realised that in exactly two weeks we have easter break! That will be nice. I've decided not to study that week, ahhhhhhh! Not that I'm doing too much of it at the moment. To tell you the truth I only do the things I really HAVE to do, projects that I have to hand in, short lectures I have to give and stuff like that. It feels good to be able to slack off a little bit, everyone else is anyway... or that is at least what I tell my self so I don't get a bad conscience, haha ;)

The last two weeks I've noticed something is not right with my eyes. I can view the world in two ways now, depending on how I want to see it. If I look at it with my right eye everything is clear and nice but with my left things are a bit more foggy and unclear. Maybe I need glasses, who knows? I'll have to make an appointment with the optic. Maybe the next time you see me I'll be wearing spectacles :oP Haha! Wouldn't that just make me the perfect nerd ;) (No offense to those who wear glasses! I just look really nerdy with glasses, that's all.)

News, news... that's pretty much all that's new in my life. Exciting, right? More exciting things are happening around me though! My friend (Eva) and her boyfriend had a little baby boy. He is just so cute, a really beautiful child. Let me just ask you, is there anything in the world that is more perfect than a little baby? I don't think so... every child is a Miracle if you ask me!

I have only seen pictures of Eva's son, but I'm going for a visit this week. Can't wait! That's all for now! See ya!

A visit to the dentist... Ugh!

This morning at 10 o'clock I had an appointment with my dentist. It was time to pull one of my wisdom teeth out. Ugh! I wasn't too happy about that, but it had to be done sooner or later and I think sooner is better. So this was me this morning:

Luckily it went better than in the picture! The tooth was easy to get to. He just had to cut, pull it out and then sew a little.

The one thing I hate more than having teeth pulled out is the drill! Well, maybe because of the sound cause I have never experienced it, haha! And I never want to!

Oh well, that's my story! Have a great weekend!

What's up?

Hello everyone! It's time to blog! The last three days have been kinda hectic because I had to give short lecture at school today and we use PP (Power Point) for that. No problem with that! I prepared the lecture (on sensation and perception) and put in pictures and everything was jolly good... until... I found out the school has the PP version from 2000 and not from 2003! Which meant that my slide show wouldn't work as I wanted it to. More work for me - well, actually for my dad. He fixed it for me (I don't know how to make it work in an older version of PP). So anyways I gave my lecture today and it worked out ok, not exactly as I wanted it to, but ok.

One of the pictures I used I thought was so cool that I just had to put it here. (I used it for the part where I was talking about inborn abilities of sensation and perception and how babies perceive the environment. Just in case you wanted to know ;) hehe.) Isn't it beautiful?

I think it is just WOW!

You know what? Anytime now a friend of mine is having a baby. She's going to be a mom! How exciting!

Ok, now I need to go to bed. God bless everyone and have a good night/day depending on when you read this ;)
